Porcelain veneers provide a beautiful white smile. Patients with chips, discolorations, and other flaws are recommended veneer for an improved smile.

Dental veneers are created with durability in mind but are not indestructible. We’ve shared four simple tips for you to use to keep your smile maintained!

Your Teeth Are Not Tools

We’ve all been guilty of using our teeth to open a bag or lid. However, our natural teeth and veneers are not tools and shouldn’t be used for anything other than chewing food.

When you use your teeth instead of tools, you open yourself up to the risk of chipping or cracking a tooth. Be especially wary of hard surfaces, such as using your teeth to open a bottle, as the risk of damage is even higher.

Aside from the physical risk of using your teeth as tools, putting objects in or around your mouth is a great way to get sick. Everyday objects are dirtier than we think, and by putting them in your mouth, you expose yourself to bacteria.

Avoid Staining Foods and Drinks

To keep your pearly whites looking pearly, steer clear of food and drinks with the potential to stain your teeth. Specifically, foods containing beetroot, dark-colored fruits, and soy sauce can all leave your teeth stained.

Certain drinks can also be a culprit in causing stained veneers. Drinks like red wine, coffee, soda, and fruit juices are more likely to cause discoloration.

Acidic-based beverages and foods, like tomato-based sauces, should also be consumed mindfully.

To avoid staining your veneers, use a straw when drinking beverages likely to stain your teeth, and remember to brush your teeth as soon as you can after eating.

Limit Your Sugar

Not only will your overall health improve by limiting your sugar intake, but your gums and teeth will benefit too!

Consuming products containing excessive amounts of sugar makes you more likely to develop plaque. When introduced to sugar, the bacteria in plaque produce acid. This acid contributes to tooth decay, like cavities

To keep your veneers in the best possible condition, limit sugar, and remember to brush and floss after dessert!

Stop Smoking

Smoking is not an easy habit to kick, but when you do, your teeth will thank you. When you smoke cigarettes, the nicotine and tar you inhale contribute to yellowing veneers
